How do the online sessions work?
The online sessions are live streamed to your own home. We use Zoom, a user-friendly online meeting service that lets people from anywhere interact as if we're in the same room together.
This format works very well – I can see you (if you choose to leave your camera on) and give tailored cues to keep you on track. In your own space you can sink into your own experience and pop to get a blanket, cushion or drink whenever you need.
If you’re having a one-to-one, it will really help if you can leave your camera on. I can view you moving. We can talk to and fro as the session continues, to tailor the experience to your comfort and any challenges.
How do I get set up for my first online class with Zoom?
It is free and easy to get set up with Zoom. You only need to do this once. You can use your computer, tablet, or phone.
From a computer or tablet, use your browser to go to https://zoom.us/ and look for the sign up button to click
From a phone (or tablet), download the Zoom app and follow the prompts to register
There may be a few questions, you are prompted to answer. If asked, allow Zoom to use your microphone and camera, so that I will be able to see and hear you
You’re all set. When you book, I will email you full details of how to join the class or session, with a link to click at the agreed time
You can tinker with your own Zoom controls to:
switch camera on…or off, for privacy, if you don’t want to be seen
mute or un-mute your microphone
choose ‘speaker view’ or ‘gallery view’
write messages for me in the Chat box - see the speech bubble. In class, you spend most of the time lying down and moving around on a mat, often on your back, sometimes on your side or front and occasionally in sitting, kneeling or standing.
If it is a group class - what happens next, after I join the Zoom session?
Within each class, we:
briefly say hello, if you wish
if there is something particular, I want to show everybody, I will do this at the beginning
for the rest of the class, no more demos - so you can ignore the teacher in the room or on-screen
I will describe a simple move to do at the beginning to take stock and act as a baseline
you lie down, settle and start to tune into yourself - I guide you through this process
I then guide you through an evolving movement adventure. We have short, simple movement sequences, interspersed with rests. The movements very gradually grow in size or complexity or variation. And they usually get easier and smoother.
at the end, tune in again to compare how you feel now, both in lying and when you stand up
we revisit the earlier baseline movement to see if it has got easier or feels different to do now
you can leave straight away, or if you wish to stay…a short time for questions or to share your observations; we often have interesting chats!
