How can these classes help me? What are their benefits?
In these practical classes or workshops, you will experience movement that makes you feel good.
With these gentle, guided explorations of mindful movement, you can sense yourself, grow your awareness and fine tune your skills to change yourself from the inside out.
Melt away pain, stress and discomfort
You will start to unwind tightness, strain and tension as you try out small new movement patterns….to move in a more joined-up fluid way and with more pleasure, ease and confidence. You can even learn how to apply your discoveries to help your recovery from injury, pain or when carrying a lot of stress in your body.
For daily activities, leisure and sport
Move better day-to-day.
Upskill for your activities and sports. Grow your co-ordination, mobility and poise. Learn tools to keep improving.
Feel like a new improved version of you
Remind yourself what free, graceful movement feels like.
Still your busy mind. Nurture your curiosity. Discover inner peace.
Understanding how it all works
Woven in to each lesson is chat about the principles behind this method…sometimes using story and imagery.
Each session works well on its own to relieve pain, soothe your system and develop your movement skills in ways that make you feel good. It doesn’t matter if you just come occasionally or every week. All of the movement principles covered each week are complementary and build on each other over time.
Variety is the spice of life
In case you are worrying you might find all this super-slow movement boring, you would likely be wrong.
Feldenkrais folklore suggests that there are hundreds, or over a thousand of unique lessons created by Moshe Feldenkrais. In addition to this impressive number, each teacher will bring their own flavour, adaptations and inventions into each class. Variety is built into our way of teaching. This helps to keep us surprised, interested and piqued by what may come next.
Every term, I teach a big variety of lessons, working with:
different parts of the body
different positions - often lying down
different movement functions - flexing, extending, side bending, rotating, breathing, walking, sitting, bearing weight, shifting weight, reaching...
still and inward lessons
some ever-so-slightly more ambitious ones that build up to whole-body, bigger movements
weaving in different 'learning to learn' principles of Feldenkrais
I like to keep things fresh, so will leave a gap of several months or years before repeating a lesson we have done before.
All are gentle, using small moves for big gains.
