I run sessions indoors and outdoors, with all abilities very welcome.
I adopt a practical and playful approach and sessions follow a similar format each time, no matter the specific focus or theme.
We start with a simple all-round warm up of the whole body to bring in blood flow and wake up our muscles, tissues and joints.
As we do this, I guide you how to attend to your sensations. This builds a strong mind-muscle (or brain-body) connection, vital to prime us for:
learning and refining physical skills
practising safely and enjoyably in our personal ‘Goldilocks Zone’, as we tune in to our levels of comfort vs discomfort on that particular day
We move onto specific preparations related to that session’s topic - actively mobilising appropriate body areas. For example, a session on balance would include detailed moves for the feet, ankles and the lower body.
We practise each of our movement skills, starting small and easy. I show how to use simple props to make things even easier, if you are recovering from injury or have been out of practice for a long time. Then I build these moves up in scale or complexity, ensuring manageable and interesting progressions for all.
To make use of what we have learnt in the session, we finish up with bigger movements and playful explorations that are more relevant to real life.
These whole body movements make use of strength, mobility, agility, balance & control - ready for your daily life demands and future leisure adventures.
Thanks a lot for sharing all the info after, particularly the bits on knees! I really enjoyed the workshop and have been recommending your sessions to my friends.
I had a wonderful afternoon of playing, exploring, learning and sharing. Added bonus: my feet, balance and overall well being have been given a boost…Thanks Julie for all the information. You always go the extra mile. You're a star.
That workshop was very useful and has given lots to think about…Also, excellent leaflet!
How much I enjoyed Saturday's workshop at Theatre 41 - and what a great venue! I really valued the interaction with others, sharing knowledge and learning from them. I'd like to book up for another.
