Get Moving! / 10 Oct / a movement workshop for all
£10.00

The Get Moving! workshop on 10th October is for all abilities.

Feel good, move your body, build your confidence and have fun alongside others. This 90-minute introduction indoors to my approach will include warm ups, body mobility drills, basic bodyweight moves, balance games and some outdoor exploration (weather permitting).

It is part of the celebration of ageing that is the York 50+ Festival. All ages are welcome to my session - even under 50s!

Booking is essential and is now open. Click into the image above.

AUTUMN OUTDOOR MOVEMENT GROUP

I will also be hosting a weekly outdoor gentle movement group at St Nicks Nature Reserve, for six weeks starting 23rd September - Wednesdays at 10 am. This is part of the St Nicks '‘mindful movement” and nature based wellbeing offer.

Our summer group at St Nicks had a blast, meeting up at the Dragon Stones to focus on new movement patterns each week. The pace was gentle, for everyone to join it at their comfortable level. We were able to work with requests related to injuries people had or their personal leisure goals. We put our practices to the test in the playground, using the balance beams, swings (for pull up style moves), climbing nets and bars.

Booking is now open. Places are free but limited.

  • Fill in the form on this St Nicks web page / tick the box for ‘Mindful Movement: Get Moving!’

  • The QR code below should also take you to the St Nicks web page

  • Email enquiries can also be sent directly to St Nicks or email me if you need help to reach them

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION WITH ME?

Gentle warm ups, with preparations for mind & body

We start with a simple all-round warm up of the whole body to bring in blood flow and wake up our muscles, tissues and joints.

As we do this, I guide you how to attend to your sensations. This builds a strong mind-muscle (or brain-body) connection, vital to prime us for:

  • learning and refining physical skills

  • practising safely and enjoyably in our personal ‘Goldilocks Zone’, as we tune in to our levels of comfort vs discomfort on that particular day

We move onto specific preparations related to that session’s topic - actively mobilising appropriate body areas. For example, a session on balance would include detailed moves for the feet, ankles and the lower body.

Movement skills, step by step

We practise each of our movement skills, starting small and easy. I show how to use simple props to make things even easier, if you are recovering from injury or have been out of practice for a long time. Then I build these moves up in scale or complexity, ensuring manageable and interesting progressions for all.

Putting it all together

To make use of what we have learnt in the session, we finish up with bigger movements and playful explorations that are more relevant to real life.

These whole body movements make use of strength, mobility, agility, balance & control - ready for your daily life demands and future leisure adventures.

COMMENTS FROM WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS

Thanks a lot for sharing all the info after, particularly the bits on knees! I really enjoyed the workshop and have been recommending your sessions to my friends.

I had a wonderful afternoon of playing, exploring, learning and sharing. Added bonus: my feet, balance and overall well being have been given a boost…Thanks Julie for all the information. You always go the extra mile. You're a star.

That workshop was very useful and has given lots to think about…Also, excellent leaflet!

How much I enjoyed Saturday's workshop at Theatre 41 - and what a great venue!  I really valued the interaction with others, sharing knowledge and learning from them. I'd like to book up for another.
