We give some tlc to the foundation of our body, the base for all our stability and mobility - our often ignored feet. They can respond quickly to a little regular attention and re-training. We progress from there to address bigger movements, balance, control and agility.
We build up our movements, starting small and easy, with manageable progressions for all.
GENTLE WARM UPS bring in energising blood flow to the intricate network of muscles, tissues and joints in feet and ankles. Touch, pressure, massage and texture boost the sensations our feet are exposed to - rebuilding strong mind-muscle connections, vital for effective quality movement and learning new physical skills.
MOBILISATION of all 33 joints (29 bones) of each foot & ankle begins, using our own hands or tools to help. We invite the foot to become comfortable with changing shapes, which helps it to manage forces better (more efficiency, less pain). If you have pain or difficulties in foot, knee or hip, we can touch on a few lifestyle tweaks you may want to consider.
ACTIVE EXERCISES and DRILLS you can practise at home later are used to train co-ordination of individual joints and muscles that may have become a little sleepy.
PLAY & BIGGER MOVEMENTS expand the focus to include our whole body, moving everything as an integrated whole, ready for real life & future adventures. Balance training, games and improvisation are an excellent way to include this.
You'll walk away with the key exercises and strategies to restore natural movement, foot function and balance - whether you're just starting out or already on the path. I send you notes on these after each event.
More playful workshops are in the pipeline. As are classes and natural movement clubs, including outside in the summer.
If you may like to join future classes or events - indoors or outdoors - please consider keeping in touch by signing up for the newsletter. Of course you can unsubscribe at any time :).
Thanks a lot for sharing all the info after, particularly the bits on knees! I really enjoyed the workshop and have been recommending your sessions to my friends.
I had a wonderful afternoon of playing, exploring, learning and sharing. Added bonus: my feet, balance and overall well being have been given a boost…Thanks Julie for all the information. You always go the extra mile. You're a star.
That workshop was very useful and has given lots to think about…Also, excellent leaflet!
How much I enjoyed Saturday's workshop at Theatre 41 - and what a great venue! I really valued the interaction with others, sharing knowledge and learning from them. I'd like to book up for another.
