“What you truly learn best will appear to you later as your own discovery.” - Moshe Feldenkrais
Functional Integration® (FI) is an individual, personalised movement lesson, part of the Feldenkrais® method of mind-body movement intelligence.
It is a learning situation, not a therapy or clinical intervention.
We chat to find out what you want, about your interests, activities and any movement challenges you have.
You take off shoes, belt and glasses, then sit or lie on a padded, low table, supported to be comfortable with props like rollers, pads and blankets.
The teacher guides your movements through super-gentle touch.
The lesson is tailored and developed for you, in the moment…based on our chat, your wishes, my observations and your responses. In this way, it is like a conversation.
You are invited to pay attention to sensations and let me know as we go about your comfort.
We start by choosing movements that are familiar and small so that you can feel safe and sense easy, pleasurable movement.
Gradually, as we settle in, we explore other, less familiar movement variations…still with a focus on ease.
Your nervous system has a chance to let go of any muscular holding and have a new experience of sensing and moving.
New, expanded movement possibilities open up. These can be incorporated as building blocks for movements in everyday life, activity, sport or play.
Handouts or tips are given, so you can continue to play with what you have learnt at home.
